ENEA, the Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development is a public organization operating in the fields of research, innovation technology and advanced services in the fields of sustainable economic development. The activity on energy topics is driven by highly specialised and experienced researchers and technicians. ENEA promoted the development of one of the largest research centre located in Europe in Portici (Naples, Italy).
The UTTP-ENEA Portici Technical Unit with 70 researchers, 40 specialized technicians and 20 no permanent staff and students operates on the realisation and characterisation of PV material and devices, PV Concentration and high temperature thermal solar energy technologies, advanced coatings, PV module and system indoor-outdoor characterization and test. The research activity and tests are produced through research facilities localized in around 3.700 m2 laboratories, 400 m2 clean rooms.
MAIN TASKS IN THE PROJECT
ENEA, due to its vast experience in the management of research and demonstration projects, will be part with UPM and BGU of the Scientific Board that will support the Project Coordinator in the scientific management of ECOSOLE. The main operative task of ENEA will be indoor-outdoor testing and evaluation of the performance and reliability of the CPV optics, of the CPV module and component characteristics, CPV Energy rating checkout and systems reliability analysis.
RELEVANT EXPERIENCE AND PUBLICATIONS/PATENTS
ENEA is participating to several international and national projects on PV Concentration having WP and/or task leadership: among them project 213514 APOLLON Multi-approach for high efficiency integrated and intelligent Concentrating PV modules (Systems) and European Research Infrastructure for Solar Energy: Photovoltaic Power project SOPHIA [INFRA-2010-1.1.22]. ENEA will also participate to the 7FP project ENERGY.2011.2.1-1 Ultra-high efficiency concentration photovoltaic’s (CPV) cells, modules and systems / EU-Japan Coordinated Call (call EU-JAP) A new generation of concentrator photovoltaic cells, modules and systems with the responsibility of task . The Agency is also tightly involved on indoor/outdoor measurement and preconditioning requirements of CPV technology and it has continuous interexchange between national and foreign partners on standardization issues with close cooperation with IEC TC 82 WG7 which develops standards for CPV.
